Workers across Nigeria, led by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and allied unions, are readying themselves for nationwide protests against the soaring living expenses, inflation, insecurity, and general hardship gripping the nation.
Observers arriving at the Labour House headquarters in Abuja early this morning witnessed a steady stream of workers from various unions and concerned citizens converging at the site.
Among the attendees were also members of the Department of State Services, ensuring security during the demonstrations.
The NLC and the Trade Union Congress had previously issued a 14-day ultimatum to the Federal Government, starting from February 8, demanding action on agreements made on October 2, particularly regarding the removal of fuel subsidies.
In the event of the government’s failure to meet the demands within the stipulated timeframe, a two-day nationwide protest is scheduled to commence today, Tuesday, February 27, and extend to Wednesday, February 28.
