Controversy
Bezos has faced criticism for fostering a confrontational atmosphere at Amazon, along with allegations of insulting and verbally mistreating his staff.
Journalist Brad Stone detailed instances in his book The Everything Store, where Bezos made disparaging remarks such as “I’m sorry, did I take my stupid pills today?”, “Are you lazy or just incompetent?”, and “Why are you ruining my life?”
Moreover, it was reported that Bezos instigated competition between Amazon teams and even refused to provide city bus passes to discourage employees from leaving the office.
During his tenure as owner of The Washington Post, Bezos encountered accusations of potential conflicts of interest with the paper.
Despite assertions from both Bezos and the newspaper’s editorial board that he did not unfairly influence its content, concerns persisted about his control and the paper’s independence.
