Nathaniel Bassey, a well-known gospel singer, has asked the police to look into claims that he is the father of Mercy Chinwo Blessed’s baby.
As spotted by Beyond Boders, Chinwo and her spouse shared pictures of their newborn on social media, leading to rumours about Bassey being the father.
Four social media users fueled these rumours, causing distress to Bassey.
Bassey’s legal team, comprising Peter Abraham, Uche Matthew, Gbenga Agunloye, and Anthony Abia, formally submitted a petition to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) regarding the matter.
They highlighted the damaging impact of these false accusations on Bassey’s reputation and called for action to prevent further harm.

One of the lawyers stated, “These nefarious acts of these suspects, if not immediately dealt with, will continue to destroy our client’s image, injure his reputation, assassinate his character, and cast aspersion on the good name built by our client over the years.”
They urged the police to investigate the matter thoroughly and bring those responsible to justice.
As another lawyer pointed out, “International reputation is an asset—both for the individual and the nation—and takes time to acquire.”
The legal team emphasized the need for swift action to prevent similar incidents in the future.
