The family of the late Nigerian actor, Mr. Ibu, whose real name is John Okafor, has disclosed the schedule for his burial, causing online a debate online.
The well-liked actor, famous for his funny roles in Nigerian movies, will be laid to rest in his hometown, Amuri, in Enugu State.
In a statement signed by the actor’s brother, Elder Sunday Okafor, the family expressed their wish to honour Mr. Ibu with a hero’s burial. “The deceased will be buried like a hero,” declared Elder Okafor.
Beyond Boders recalls that Mr. Ibu’s declining health had worried many when it was revealed he had undergone amputation due to an undisclosed illness months before his passing.
His death was a huge loss for the Nigerian entertainment industry and his global fans who cherished his ability to bring laughter and happiness through his performances.

The statement further read, “The Okafor family in Eziokwe Amuri, Nkanu West LGA in Enugu State wishes to honour the loving memory of our hero and legend John Ikechukwu Okafor, who even in death has left a legacy of love, laughter, and liveliness.”
The burial is scheduled for June 28, 2024, and the family welcomes everyone to join them in bidding farewell to their son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and in-law.
The ceremony will begin on June 25th with a special novelty football match. On June 26th, there will be a commemorative event called “Mr. Ibu’s Night,” featuring a candlelight procession and live music.
A Christian wake will be held on June 27th at his home in Eziokwe Amuri, Nkanu West, followed by the funeral service on June 28th.
The five-day event will conclude on June 30th with a Church Thanksgiving, where family, friends, and supporters will gather to celebrate Mr. Ibu’s life.
