People in Nigeria have come together to help a 26-year-old woman who turned to selling herself for money because she could not afford surgery for her goitre.
This young woman whose name we do not know, spoke about her struggles in a video interview with a street comedienne named Comicmiss2.
In the video, she talked about her health issues and how she had been trying to save up for surgery since November 2023.
She made it clear that she did not choose to sell herself for pleasure, but out of necessity to pay for her medical treatment.
Beyond Boders notes that goitre is a condition where the thyroid gland becomes enlarged, causing a noticeable swelling in the neck.

She explained, “I started in November 2023. I have made money but I have this health issue. This is the major thing that brought me to the street. To get money and pull it out. I know that God will surely help me.”
Despite her efforts, she only managed to save around 150,000 naira, while the surgery costs about 700,000 naira.
She expressed her determination to stop selling herself once she could afford the surgery.
After the video went viral, many Nigerians expressed their desire to help her. Comicmiss2 shared her account details online to collect donations, but they only managed to gather 36,000 naira so far.
Even though some criticized Comicmiss2 for sharing her own account instead of the woman’s, she explained that she could not reach the woman and wanted to ensure she received the help she needed.
