Chelsea is in discussions with Leicester City to make Enzo Maresca their new head coach, according to reports in British media.
Maresca, an Italian who was Pep Guardiola’s assistant at Manchester City until last year, helped Leicester quickly return to the Premier League after their relegation a year ago.
Chelsea’s leaders are reportedly impressed with Maresca’s style of football. Sky Sports mentioned on Monday that Chelsea has asked Leicester for permission to speak directly with Maresca, who is said to be their top choice.
Chelsea is looking for a new manager after parting ways with Mauricio Pochettino. He was in charge at Stamford Bridge for just one season.
Other names linked to the job include Brentford’s Thomas Frank and Kieran McKenna from Ipswich.
Pochettino left after Chelsea finished sixth in the Premier League, securing a spot in the Europa Conference League but missing out on the Champions League and a trophy.
Chelsea lost the League Cup final to Liverpool and were defeated by Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-finals.
However, there were positive signs under Pochettino, as it ended the season with five straight wins, ensuring they will play in European competition next season.
