Elon Musk Threatens to Ban Apple Devices Over OpenAI Integration

by Beyondboders

Elon Musk has warned that he will ban Apple devices from his companies if Apple integrates OpenAI’s software into their operating systems.

Musk has the belief that this integration poses a security risk.

Apple has over 1.4 billion active iPhone users worldwide, in addition to an estimated 100 million Mac users in 2020 and a large number of Apple Watch users.

Musk’s comments came after Apple announced that customers would soon be able to use OpenAI’s ChatGPT through Siri, as part of new AI features.

On the social media platform X, Musk called Apple’s potential move a “security violation.” He stated that visitors with Apple devices would need to leave them at the entrance, where they would be stored in a Faraday cage to block any electronic signals.

“If Apple integrates OpenAI at the OS level, then Apple devices will be banned at my company. That is an unacceptable security violation.

“And visitors will have to check their Apple devices at the door, where they will be stored in a Faraday cage,” Musk posted on X.

Apple’s new AI features include a partnership with OpenAI to bring ChatGPT to Apple devices, aiming to improve user experience with advanced AI functions.

Despite Apple’s claims that their AI developments prioritize user privacy, Musk remains doubtful. He criticized Apple for relying on OpenAI instead of developing their own AI, and questioned their ability to ensure security and privacy.

Musk’s stance against Apple and OpenAI is part of a larger disagreement with OpenAI. He co-founded OpenAI in 2015 to create AI for the benefit of humanity, but he believes the company has shifted towards profit-driven goals.

In March, Musk sued OpenAI and its CEO, Sam Altman, accusing them of straying from their original mission.

Musk has also started his own AI company, xAI, which aims to develop AI solutions that align with his vision of responsible AI development. xAI is valued at $24 billion after a $6billion investment.
