A Nigerian man, Chukwudi Nwachukwu, has been arrested for trafficking 11 teenage girls to Ghana for prostitution.
Beyond Boders reports that the girls, aged 15-18, were promised restaurant jobs, but were instead forced into prostitution.
The girls were deceived with promises of a better life and were transported from Lagos to Ghana without international passports. They were then forced to undergo ritual oaths and were exploited in the sex trade.
Rescued after a tip-off from the Diaspora Organisation (NIDO), the girls are now in the custody of the Nigerian High Commission in Ghana, receiving support, care, counseling, and food. They will be reunited with their families in Nigeria after the investigation is complete.
“The High Commission has also taken custody of his passport. Police authorities are investigating the matter, and as soon as the investigation is completed, the High Commission will make arrangements to reunite them with their families in Nigeria,” said Ifedayo Moses Adeoye, Acting High Commissioner.
