The Oyo State government has issued a warning to residents about a possible cholera outbreak.
The government is asking everyone to be careful and keep their surroundings clean, especially their food and water.
Dr. Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi, the Commissioner for Health, visited a private hospital in Ibadan where two people with suspected cholera are being treated.
She explained that cholera is caused by bacteria from contaminated food or water and can lead to severe diarrhea, dehydration, vomiting, and fever.
The two suspected cases are male workers from a construction site in Lekki Peninsula, Lagos State.

Dr. Ajetunmobi assured the public that the government is taking all necessary steps to control the situation and prevent the spread of the disease.
The state’s response includes several measures: local government disease surveillance officers (DSNOs) have been deployed, public health messages in English and Yoruba are being broadcast, a Cholera Technical Working Group has been formed, and isolation and treatment centres are ready.
Beyond Boders further reports that surveillance has been increased, and information about cholera has been shared with community leaders.
Dr. Ajetunmobi urged everyone to drink only clean water, wash their hands regularly with soap, and avoid self-medication. She advised anyone with cholera symptoms to go to the nearest healthcare facility immediately.
