French football star Kylian Mbappé has made a strong call for people to vote in the upcoming French election.
He described the first-round results as “very bad” and said it is “urgent” to vote this weekend.
Speaking before the Euro 2024 quarterfinal against Portugal, Mbappé said, “We can’t leave our country in the hands of these people,” hoping everyone will vote for the right side.
Mbappé has been vocal about the importance of voting against extremist groups. He believes this election is a “crucial moment” for France.
In the first round, Marine Le Pen and Jordan Bardella’s far-right National Rally got more than 31% of the vote. They aim to win a majority in parliament and form a government.

Other French national team players also spoke out against the far right. Jules Koundé from FC Barcelona called the National Rally a party built on hate and misinformation.
Liverpool player Ibrahima Konaté expressed his worries about discrimination against Muslims and immigrants in France.
Konaté shared that his parents worked tough jobs and said it is sad that such hardworking people are not appreciated.
French Football Federation President Philippe Diallo praised Konaté, noting the challenges in the current political climate.
Meanwhile, England’s John Stones mentioned that their team camp has stayed clear of politics despite the general election in the UK.
