Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, shared that he felt “tricked” into letting his child take puberty blockers.
He talked about this in a live interview with psychologist Jordan Peterson on Monday.
In the interview, Peterson asked Musk why he decided to move SpaceX’s headquarters from California.
Musk said it was because of a new law, Assembly Bill 1955, which allows schools to keep a child’s gender identity secret from their parents. California Governor Gavin Newsom signed this bill into law on July 15, 2024.
Musk explained that his child, Xavier, who now identifies as transgender and goes by the name Vivian Jenna Wilson, was affected by this issue. He said, “It’s evil. You’re taking kids who are far below the age of consent.”

Musk said that during the COVID-19 pandemic, he was confused and worried about Xavier, who might commit suicide. He felt pressured to sign documents for puberty blockers. He later found out that these blockers can act as sterilization drugs.
Peterson argued that the suicide risk was exaggerated and that the real issue was underlying depression and anxiety, not gender dysphoria.
Musk agreed, calling the situation “incredibly evil” and saying that people promoting these treatments should go to prison.
Musk expressed his grief, stating, “I lost my son. They call it ‘deadnaming’ because your son is dead. Xavier is dead, killed by the woke mind virus.” Musk vowed to fight against this “woke mind virus.”
A study by the Mayo Clinic this year linked puberty blockers to long-term fertility issues in boys.
Vivian, formerly known as Xavier, publicly announced her transgender identity in June 2022 and changed her name to cut ties with Musk.
Musk recently announced plans to move SpaceX and X headquarters to Texas due to California’s new law. He said he had warned the governor about this move if the bill became law.
