Hardship Protest: Organizers Insist on August 1 Protest Despite Govt Opposition

by Beyondboders

Organizers of the nationwide protest against bad governance and hardship in Nigeria have revealed their identities and confirmed their commitment to the August 1 rally.

The protest aims to address issues of bad governance, hunger, and hardship affecting the country.

At least 26 groups, including Concerned Nigerians, Nigerians Against Hunger, and Take it Back Movement, will participate in the protest. These groups have contacted 20 state governments, asking for permission to use public spaces for their demonstrations.

Omoyele Sowore, the leader of the Revolution Now Movement, has announced the protest locations, which include major cities like Lagos, Kano, Bauchi, Enugu, and the Federal Capital Territory. He encouraged Nigerians to add more locations if their towns or cities are not listed.

Damilare Adenola, from the Take it Back Movement, emphasized that the protest is supported by various groups and is a right of the people.

“This is not about one group or another. It is about angry and hungry Nigerians who are tired of this system. Protest is our right. Nobody can take it away from us.”

Beyond Boders further reports that they have written to the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, requesting the use of Eagle Square for the protest and asking for basic facilities and security for the demonstrators.

Tunde Thomas from Nigerians Against Hunger stated that the protest aims to end hunger in Nigeria.

Ocean Panem from the Initiative for Change described the protest as a peaceful way to voice the frustrations of Nigerians.

Despite some groups withdrawing from the protest, Jabir Yaro of the Northern Comrades Movement insisted that the protest will go ahead and encouraged mass participation. He dismissed the withdrawal as propaganda by government supporters.

The Take it Back Movement accused the DSS of freezing its United Bank of Africa account to hinder their protest efforts and threatened legal action if the account is not unfrozen within 24 hours.
