#EndBadGovernanceInNigeria: Lagos Protests to Resume on Monday – Organisers

by Beyondboders

Organizers of the ‘End Hunger’ protest in Lagos have announced plans to continue their demonstration on Monday at Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Park, Ojota.

This decision was confirmed in a statement on Sunday by organizers Hassan Taiwo, Ayoyinka Oni, and Adegboyega Adeniji, representing the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria group.

The organisers expressed their disappointment that it took President Bola Tinubu three days of protests before addressing the nation.

Beyond Boders recalls that in his Sunday broadcast, President Tinubu acknowledged the concerns of the protesters and called for an end to the demonstrations, offering dialogue as a solution.

The protest organisers see the President’s speech as a victory for their movement, but are concerned about his call to suspend further protests while offering dialogue.

They criticized what they called a contradictory approach from the President, who they believe cannot offer peace while threatening their movement.

The organizers condemned the attacks by thugs on protesters during Sunday’s gathering, where many were injured. They urged all Nigerian youths and the general public to join them at 7 am on Monday, August 5, 2024, at Gani Fawehinmi Park, Ojota, for Day 5 of the protest.

They also called on organizations like the Nigeria Labour Congress, the Trade Union Congress, the media, and the Nigerian Bar Association to support their cause and not ignore the situation.

The Lagos protest has remained peaceful, but videos have surfaced showing hoodlums attacking protesters with sticks at Ojota, shortly after the President’s address on Sunday.

One video showed a protester being hit in the head by a thug during a live interview.

The organizers emphasized that the #EndBadGovernance protest is driven by the suffering and frustration of ordinary Nigerian youth and people.
