GTB Addresses Website Hack, Customer Data Compromise

by Beyondboders

Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank), a well-known Nigerian bank, has denied reports that hackers took control of its website and customers’ data, stating that the reports are completely false.

According to Naija News, checks carried out on Wednesday night showed that the GTBank website, gtbank.com, was not accessible.

This happened just one day after the website’s domain was renewed, extending its validity until March 21, 2029. No hacker group has claimed responsibility for the reported attack.

Peoples Gazette also reported that there were suggestions that hackers might have created a fake version of the website to steal customers’ sensitive information.

A cybersecurity expert suggested that the issue could have involved the bank’s login credentials, rather than the domain being hijacked.

Beyond Boders further learned that despite the problem with the website, GTBank’s mobile apps on Android and iOS were still working at the time of this report.

A senior GTBank official, who spoke to Daily Post but asked to remain anonymous, confirmed that the bank had a connectivity issue, stating, “It’s false. What we are experiencing is a connectivity issue and has nothing to do with the alleged hacking.”
