Unusual and heavy snowfall covered parts of South Africa, creating problems for many people on Sunday.
The South African Weather Service said the weather surprised everyone, affecting transport, roads, and daily activities.
Big roads, like highways, were blocked by the snow, causing traffic jams and delays. A social media user, Kristy Tallman, wrote, “Exceptional snowfall in South Africa: Highway between Durban and Johannesburg BLOCKED due to ice and snow, causing serious disruptions.”
Many people shared videos of the rare snow on social media. Public transportation, including buses and trains, stopped working in some areas.
There are unconfirmed reports that two people died from the cold. Emergency workers are trying to clear the roads and bring back power.
People have been told to stay inside and avoid going out unless it’s very important.
