Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has apologised for his previous statement that Christians who do not pay tithe might not go to heaven.
Speaking to his church members on Thursday night, Pastor Adeboye admitted that the comment was a mistake. The video of his apology is now circulating online.
He made this clarification while speaking to the youth at the ongoing Youth Convention at the RCCG Redemption Camp.
Pastor Adeboye explained that peaceful and holy living, not tithe, are the true requirements for heaven, as taught in the Bible.
“I apologise for saying ‘If you don’t pay tithe, you might not make it to heaven.’ I’m sorry, that’s wrong, and it’s not in the Bible. What the Bible says is ‘Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see God,” he stated.

He further explained that it is possible to be both right and wrong, using a scientific example of how people once believed light travels in straight lines, but later found out it moves in waves.
He suggested that giving more than 10% should be encouraged, though 10% is a good start.
Pastor Adeboye promised to give more details about the matter soon.
