President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has removed six ministers from their positions after a performance review that was guided by the public’s opinions.
Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information, said the review was carefully planned and overseen by Hadiza Bala Usman, the President’s Adviser on Policy.
In an interview, Onanuga explained that this review had been in the works since the ministers were sworn in last year.
President Tinubu had warned during the swearing-in ceremony in August 2023 that he would not hesitate to remove ministers who did not meet his expectations.
The President repeated this warning during a ministerial retreat in October 2023, saying he would regularly review the ministers’ performance.

Hadiza Bala Usman led the review, using technology to gather public feedback. Nigerians were asked to rate the ministers based on their work.
“The results were based on empirical facts, the public perception of these ministers, and it was the people who actually did the scorecard. The President acted on those results,” Onanuga said.
As a result of the review, six ministers were fired: Prof. Tahir Mamman (Education), Uju Kennedy Ohanenye (Women Affairs), Mohammed Gwarzo (State for Housing), Jamila Ibrahim (Youth Development), Lola Ade-John (Tourism), and suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Betta Edu, who has already been replaced.
This reshuffle is part of President Tinubu’s promise to keep his government focused on delivering good results for Nigerians.
