Dog Inherits Wealth from Late Indian Billionaire Tata

by Beyondboders

Indian billionaire Ratan Tata, who passed away on October 9 at 86, has left a special place in his Rs 10,000 crore will for his beloved dog, Tito.

Tata’s trusted cook, Rajan Shaw, will oversee Tito’s care, ensuring the dog receives “unlimited” attention, according to a report by India Today.

This move is unusual in India’s business world and highlights Tata’s deep love for Tito, whom he adopted about six years ago. Specific funds have been allocated in the will to cover Tito’s needs throughout his life.

The main recipient of Tata’s wealth is the Ratan Tata Endowment Foundation, created in 2022 to uphold his charitable vision. This foundation will inherit Tata’s shares in multiple companies, allowing it to continue his legacy of social projects. Tata’s son, Chandrasekaran, who currently chairs the foundation, will guide its future work to honour his father’s values.

Family members, including Tata’s brother Jimmy and half-sisters Shireen and Deanna Jejeebhoy, also feature in the will, along with long-serving staff who played key roles in his life.

Tata’s close aide, Shantanu Naidu, will receive part of the inheritance, including forgiveness of a personal loan and Tata’s shares in Naidu’s startup, Goodfellows.

A final decision on Tata’s luxury car collection, containing about 20–30 high-end vehicles, is still pending. Options being considered include either auctioning the cars or creating a public exhibit in Tata’s honor.

The will is currently awaiting legal approval at the Bombay High Court, which is expected soon, ensuring that Tata’s wishes—from caring for Tito to supporting social causes—are fully honoured.
