Malema Unfazed as Mpofu Leaves EFF for MK Party, Predicts More Exits

by Beyondboders

Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema is unfazed by the recent departure of Dali Mpofu, a senior party member and longtime lawyer for former President Jacob Zuma.

Mpofu, who previously served as the EFF’s national chairperson, announced he is leaving to join Zuma’s uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) party.

Mpofu shared that his move to the MK party comes after deep reflection, revealing he’s been considering it for over a year. He believes the MK party is the “true path” to achieving black unity and complete liberation, something he no longer sees in the EFF.

Explaining his decision, Mpofu said, “The MK party has been true to fostering unity, total black and progressive unity, and I feel total liberation would be achieved through the MK party.”

He added that the idea took shape after discussions with Zuma following the ANC’s 2022 conference. Despite leaving the EFF, Mpofu mentioned he holds no ill will toward Malema and has yet to inform him directly.

The MK party welcomed Mpofu’s decision. Party spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhlela said Mpofu’s move reflects the MK party’s appeal to former EFF members interested in promoting “black and progressive unity.

Other former EFF leaders have also joined MK, including ex-deputy president Floyd Shivambu and former EFF MP Mzwanele Manyi.

In response to these exits, Malema stated on social media, “We remain standing and are not going anywhere under a criminal syndicate.”

He hinted that more senior members, potentially Mbuyiseni Ndlozi and Veronica Mente, might soon leave.

The EFF has been addressing internal issues, especially as it prepares for its upcoming conference.
