In the Best Afrobeats Artist category, Tyla’s win was particularly impressive as she beat popular Nigerian artistes like Asake, Tems, Rema, Burna Boy, and Ayra Starr.
For the Best African Act award, Tyla again triumphed over other well-known African musicians, including Nigeria’s Asake, South Africa’s DBN Gogo, and Tanzania’s Diamond Platnumz. Her win highlights her growing influence in African music.
Tyla also secured the Best R&B Artist award, beating famous American artistes Khelani, SZA, Tinashe, Usher, and Victoria Monèt.
Nigerian singer Ayra Starr had four nominations, but did not win any awards this year. She was nominated in categories like Best African Act, Best New Artist, Best Afrobeats Artist, and Best Push, but faced strong competition.
