Dada Olusegun, Special Adviser on Social Media to President Bola Tinubu, has claimed that Rabiu Kwankwaso, the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in 2023, once supported the same tax reforms he now opposes.
Olusegun revealed this in a post on X (formerly Twitter), saying Kwankwaso’s 2023 campaign manifesto included plans for similar tax reforms. He challenged Kwankwaso to deny this, adding, “The manifesto is in public domain for those who don’t believe.”
Recently, Kwankwaso called on President Tinubu to reconsider the Tax Reform Bills, saying it is not the right time to introduce them. He urged the president to prioritize the interests of Nigerians.
The Tax Reform Bills include the Nigeria Tax Bill 2024, the Tax Administration Bill, the Nigeria Revenue Service Establishment Bill, and the Joint Revenue Board Establishment Bill. They are currently being reviewed by the National Assembly.
Critics have labeled the bills as favouring Lagos and Rivers States, describing them as “anti-North.”
However, Tinubu’s media aide, Bayo Onanuga, dismissed these concerns. He argued that the bills aim to improve life for all Nigerians, especially those struggling financially.
