The Federal Government has reduced interstate transport fares by 50% for the Christmas and New Year celebrations to help Nigerians save money during the festive season.
Olujimi Oyetomi, the Director of Press and Public Relations in the Ministry of Transportation, shared this news in a statement on Thursday.
“To commence the 2024 Yuletide road transportation, passengers will board buses to their destinations for only 50% of fares, as declared by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” the statement said.
This reduction is part of President Tinubu’s plan to ease travel costs for Nigerians during the holidays.
The agreement was finalized at a signing ceremony led by the Minister of Transportation, Senator Said Alkali, represented by Adeleye Adeoye, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Transportation.
The Federal Government partnered with major transport unions and companies, including the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), the Association of Luxurious Bus Owners of Nigeria, and God is Good Motors, to make this possible.
Passengers traveling from Abuja and Lagos (Oshodi) to other states will benefit from this fare cut.
