Gurpreet Gogi, a member of India’s Legislative Assembly from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), has died after accidentally shooting himself. The tragic incident happened around midnight, with Gogi suffering a head injury from the gunshot.
According to his family, the shooting was accidental. He was immediately taken to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital, where doctors confirmed his death.
Punjab Police have stated that the initial findings suggest it was an accident. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Jaskaran Singh Teja told the media that Gogi was found with a bullet injury to his head.
“Gurpreet Gogi was declared dead at the hospital, his body has been kept at the mortuary in the DMC hospital,” said DCP Teja.
The exact cause of death will be confirmed after a post-mortem examination. Investigations are ongoing to understand the full details of the incident.
Gogi, who joined the AAP in 2022, gained attention when he defeated two-time Congress MLA Bharat Bhushan Ashu in the Ludhiana assembly elections.
