Ojomachenwu Adaidu, the mother of Salome Adaidu, a gospel singer, has spoken about her last conversation with her daughter.
Salome, 24, was a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) serving at Nicon Insurance in Abuja. She was allegedly murdered by Oluwatimileyin Ajayi.
According to reports, Salome had visited Ajayi at his home in Papalana, New Karshi, in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State before her tragic death. Ajayi was found on Sunday attempting to dispose of her body.
In a recent interview with BBC Pidgin, Salome’s mother shared their final conversation. “I called her on Saturday and asked where she was. She told me she was washing clothes. I then asked if she was washing the clothes alone. She said yes and added that the firstborn child was in the living room cleaning it,” Mrs. Adaidu recounted.
Salome had planned to go for her NYSC training after finishing her chores. Her mother suspects something went wrong after that. “Maybe on her way to the place, she entered a ‘one-chance’ (a kind of scam often involving public transport), or someone used medicine (voodoo) on her because she doesn’t have friends like that. I want justice for my child,” she said.
The Nasarawa State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, assured that the suspect would face justice.
“Investigation is ongoing and upon conclusion, he will be arraigned in court for prosecution. I want to assure the family and members of the public that this suspect will not be spared if found wanting,” Nansel stated.
