Charles Inojie, a renowned Nollywood actor, recently opened up about the challenges he faced during his early years, including his parents’ divorce and neglect.
Inojie in a candid interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, revealed that his parents divorced when he was only eight months old, and his mother left him behind thus, he was raised by his grandmother who had to breastfeed him.
To worsen the issue, his father remarried and prioritized his new wife over him. Inojie’s stepmother pressured his father to choose between her and him, and his father ultimately chose his wife.
He also described how his stepmother made his life unbearable, as he only lived with his father for a brief period before leaving.
On gaining admission to the university at the age of 20, his stepmother influenced his father not to support him, insisting that they wait until her own child was also ready for university.
”When I wanted to go to the University, I came back to the house to tell him I have gotten admission. The woman began to laugh, faced my Dad and told him ‘If this one has to go the University, he will wait for my own child to grow so they will go together’, that is a child I an older than with 18 to 20 years,” he said.
He reconnected with his mother years later, but their relationship was strained due to the lack of emotional connection between them.
In a heartfelt revelation, the comic actors shared the emotional turmoil he experienced when he informed his father about his university admission. Despite his efforts, his stepmother intervened, causing his father to withhold support. This emotional encounter left both father and son in tears.
Also, he disclosed that his father refused to bless him even after he got his first job.
“My first work, they said Papa must pray for his child’. I bought a drink and put N5000 in an envelop and asked that he prays for me and he said he wasn’t going to touch it and that his conscience will not let him having not contributed a dime.”
