The Ogun State Police Command has started a search for the killers of Prophet Yomi Adetula from the Celestial Church of Christ’s Hebrew Parish. The prophet was shot dead during a church service in Idiroko, Ogun State.
In a statement, the police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, confirmed that the incident happened on Sunday morning. The Divisional Police Officer of Idiroko received a distress call about the attack at the Celestial Church along Old Baggage Road, Odo Eran, Idiroko.
Beyond Boders learned that when police arrived at the scene, they found the 54-year-old prophet lying in a pool of blood, his white church garment stained red and his body covered with bullet wounds. Odutola explained that the attackers also used an axe on the prophet to ensure his death.
Witnesses said the suspect entered the church with a long double-barreled shotgun and fired at the prophet, causing chaos as the congregation scattered. After the attack, the assailants fled towards the border area.
Odutola said, “Police officers raced to the scene and saw the victim’s lifeless body in the pool of blood that stained his white garment lying face down up. On careful observation, his body was riddled with bullets, and his head was not spared. To ensure the victim was dead, it was mangled with an axe.”
The prophet’s body has been taken to the General Hospital Mortuary in Ilaro, and the police have restored calm in the area. The police are working to find the suspects, who escaped through the border.
A source from the Social Orientation and Safety Corps in Ogun State confirmed that the victim was a senior officer and a key witness in an ongoing legal case.
““He is one of our senior officers in Idiroko. He was a key witness in an ongoing litigation,” the source said.
