A group called the Concerned Christian Youth Forum has reacted to the arrest of popular TikToker Ogunsanwo Olumide John, also known as Seaking.
Beyond Boders reports that he was arrested for allegedly insulting Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG).
According to reports, police officers arrested Ogunsanwo in Lagos and transferred him to the Federal Investigation Department (FID) in Abuja. His arrest was linked to alleged cyberbullying.
The issue started when Ogunsanwo made a video on TikTok, where he called Pastor Adeboye “very stupid and foolish” for asking his church members to fast for 100 days.
The Concerned Christian Youth Forum, which claimed responsibility for the petition that led to his arrest, said the incident was an example of growing online harassment.
Speaking on the matter, the group’s convener, Adama Paul James, said, “Christian leaders and all elders in our society deserve to be treated with the utmost respect, as they represent the wisdom, experience, and cultural legacy of our nation. The erosion of this fundamental principle of respect for elders is a worrisome development that must be addressed with urgency.
“We will no longer fold our hands and watch such reprehensible behaviours, especially those targeting highly esteemed and prominent figures like genuine leaders of the Christian faith. Such attacks will no longer be tolerated or condoned in our nation.”
He added that Ogunsanwo’s comments were not only offensive but also violated Nigerian cybercrime laws. The group confirmed that the TikToker would face legal charges under the Cybercrimes Act.
The forum warned that such attacks on religious figures would no longer be tolerated and urged young people to be mindful of their words online.
