The Anambra State Government has shut down a shrine in Umuofor village, Okija, Ihiala Local Government Area.
The shrine, allegedly run by Ekene Igboegbueze, was said to be used for making people rich through supernatural means.
Mr. Ken Emeakai, Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Community Security, confirmed the closure. He said the government acted after receiving complaints from Okija residents about Igboegbueze’s activities.
A video also surfaced online where Igboegbueze claimed he performed “Oke Ite,” “Awele,” and “Yahoo Plus” rituals, which go against the Anambra State Homeland Security Laws.
The government has also sealed all properties linked to the suspect. Items found in the shrine will undergo forensic tests to determine further actions.
Mr. Chinenye Ihenko, Director of Operation Agunechemba, expressed concern over fake native doctors and pastors, saying their actions encourage a get-rich-quick mindset in society.
