Thousands Protest Against President Trump Across US Cities [Video]

by Beyondboders

Thousands of people came out on Saturday to protest against President Donald Trump in many big cities across the United States. The peaceful protests were the largest since Trump returned to power.

The protesters gathered in places like Washington, New York, Houston, Florida, Colorado, and Los Angeles. They were unhappy with Trump’s decisions on things like job cuts in government, trade rules, and human rights.

A woman from New York named Shaina Kesner, 43, said:

“I am so angry, I’m so mad, all the time, yes. A bunch of privileged, white alleged rapists are controlling our country. It’s not great.”

In Washington, many people travelled from different parts of the country to join the protest at the National Mall. One of them, Diane Kolifrath, 64, said:

“We have about 100 people who have come down by bus and van from New Hampshire to protest against this outrageous administration (that) is causing us to lose our allies across the world, and causing devastation to people here at home.”

In Los Angeles, a woman dressed like a character from the book “The Handmaid’s Tale” carried a flag saying, “Get out of my uterus,” showing her anger at Trump’s anti-abortion policies.

In Denver, a man held a sign that said, “No king for USA,” showing his belief that Trump was acting like a ruler, not a president.

Even outside the US, people in London and Berlin joined the protests. Liz Chamberlin, who is both American and British, said at the London rally:

“What’s happening in America is everyone’s problem.”

Back in the US, protest groups like MoveOn and Women’s March organised over 1,000 events nationwide, asking people to say “Hands Off” to Trump’s actions.

Protesters said they were tired of Trump’s actions, including cutting down the size of government, forcing strict values on people, and causing problems with other countries over trade and immigration.

In Boston, protester Dominic Santella said:

“We’re out here to stop the, honestly, fascism.”

At the Washington rally, Democratic Representative Jamie Raskin, who helped with Trump’s second impeachment, said:

“No moral person wants an economy-crashing dictator who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing.”

Another speaker, Graylan Hagler, 71, warned:

“They’ve woken up a sleeping giant, and they haven’t seen nothing yet.”

“We will not sit down, we will not be quiet, and we will not go away.”

The mood at the protests was calm and friendly, with people of all ages, including families with small children. Organisers said more people came than expected.

Trump’s popularity is dropping, according to new polls, but he says he will not change. On Friday, he said:

“My policies will never change.”

Even though many Americans and people around the world are angry, Trump continues to lead the country with strong support from his followers.
