Senate Demands CAC Chief’s Urgent Appearance

by Beyondboders

The Senate Committee on Finance has instructed the Inspector General of Police to ensure the presence of Ishaq Magaji, the Registrar General of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), within the next 24 hours.

Expressing frustration over Magaji’s repeated absence from the committee’s invitations on Wednesday., Committee Chairman Sani Musa emphasized the importance of Magaji defending the commission’s 2024 budget.

Beyond Boders gathered that the committee had uncovered financial inconsistencies in the submitted documents.

Despite multiple invitations, the four senior officials of the commission were unable to provide reasons for Magaji’s nonattendance.

Also, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah called for punitive measures, while Senator Bello Mandiya questioned the reasons behind Magaji’s reluctance.

Mandiya stated, “It’s disrespect by the Registrar General of the Corporate Affairs Commission to shun this Committee for the third time.

“Even the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria appears before us to present a budget.

“Who is Registrar General of CAC that cannot appear before us?”

Moreover, Senator Abdul Ningi urged the CAC officials not to return without Magaji, emphasizing the need for the CAC to clarify how funds were utilized.

Musa, invoking Section 89 (2), mandated the Inspector General of Police to compel Magaji’s appearance, citing his disregard for the committee’s requests.

The committee had previously highlighted revenue and expenditure discrepancies in the Corporate Affairs Commission, insisting on Magaji’s presence to address the issues.
