The revered leader of Asaba, known as the 13th Asagba of Asaba in Delta State, His Royal Majesty, Prof. Joseph Chike Edozien, has passed away.
The monarch, who was born on July 28, 1925, in Asaba to the renowned Edozien family, passed away on Wednesday, February 7.
Prof. Edozien was not only a custodian of tradition, but also a distinguished figure in various spheres.
In 1997, he served as Chairman of the Delta State Council of Traditional Rulers, showcasing his commitment to community leadership.
Recognizing his outstanding contributions, then-Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo honoured him with the national title of Commander of the Federal Republic (CFR) in 2003.

Beyond his royal duties, Prof. Edozien played a pivotal role in education; he served as the Chancellor of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, and made history as the first Black-African indigenous dean of medicine in a foreign land.
