Human rights lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has stepped forward to represent the students who were bullied at Lead British International School in Abuja.
Beyond Boders reports that videos of the bullying went viral on Tuesday morning, prompting swift action.
Adeyanju, in a conversation with newsmen, stated that he, along with the parents of the victims, met with the school’s administration for three hours to discuss the next steps.
He confirmed that the school would be temporarily shut down for three days during the investigation.
The disturbing footage showed several students assaulting their peers, with one video depicting a group of girls repeatedly hitting another girl while she sat defenseless. The school administration swiftly launched an investigation into the matter.
“I alongside the parents of the bullied students were at the school for close to three hours and it is a sad occurrence. We spoke to the Head of the School and we ensured that he announced that the school would be shut down for three days as investigations continue. The announcement was made.
“I will be taking the matter up as their lawyer and we are trying to get a letter which will be shared with you. You can be rest assured that justice will be served,” Adeyanju said.
In an official statement signed by the Head of School, Abraham Ogunkanmbi, LBIS assured the public of a thorough investigation.
A dedicated team has been appointed to gather information, review footage, and interview witnesses to understand the incident’s full scope.
LBIS expressed deep concern over the bullying incident, emphasizing its commitment to a safe learning environment.
The school is providing support to both the victims and perpetrators’ families, offering counseling services to cope with the incident’s emotional impact.
Additionally, LBIS plans to implement educational programmes and workshops to raise awareness about bullying and its consequences among students, staff, and parents.
The school also urged social media users to refrain from sharing the video clips further.
