Amber Rose, a 40-year-old model, showed her support for Donald Trump at the Republican National Convention on Monday, July 15.
She shared her journey to becoming a Trump supporter, saying, “I’m here tonight to tell you, no matter your political background, that the best chance we have to give our babies a better life is to elect Donald Trump president of the United States.”
Rose said the media had misled her about Trump. She now believes supporting him is the right choice for a better America.
“I care about the truth, and the truth is that the media has lied to us about Donald Trump. I know this because for a long time I believed those lies,” she added.
Rose mentioned she no longer fears being judged or “attacked from the left.” She feels that being a Trump supporter and part of the Republican Party is where she belongs.
“Trump and his supporters don’t care if you’re Black, white, gay or straight. It’s all love. And that’s when it hit me: These are my people. This is where I belong,” she continued.
She also talked about rising prices and inflation affecting Americans. “When you go to the store to buy food for your family, you’re shocked. When you fill up your gas tank, you’re pissed. I know I am, and when you turn on the news, you are just exhausted, inflation is out of control,” she said.
Rose believes American families were better off when Trump was president. “The left told me to hate Trump and, even worse, to hate the other side — the people who support him,” she concluded. “When you cut through the lies, you realize the truth: American families were better when Donald Trump was president. We were safer, wealthier, and stronger,” she concluded.
Political commentator Van Jones found Rose’s speech impactful, stating, “That was probably the most dangerous speech for the Democratic coalition. That is a young woman of colour. She is describing the experience that a lot of people have — feeling that maybe, if you’re around too many liberals, you might get criticized too much or you might not be able to speak your mind, and she spoke to it really well,” on CNN.
Rose publicly supported Trump in May by posting a photo with him and his wife, Melania. In 2016, she had called Trump a “f—king idiot” in an interview.
Monday was Trump’s first public appearance since an assassination attempt. He appeared with a bandage on his ear.
