The Australian government will increase the fees for citizenship applications and passports starting July 1, 2024.
These new fees will affect many applicants, including permanent residents, adopted children, and some foreign applicants.
New Citizenship Application Fees
– Adults (Ages 18 to 59): $560 (up from $540)
– First Adopted Sibling: $360 (up from $345)
– Additional Adopted Siblings: $150 (up from $145)
Some families and specific groups will have exemptions or only small fee changes. Children under 16 who apply with a parent will not have to pay the increased fees. This helps reduce the financial burden on families.
Adoption Fees Under the Hague Convention
– Single Application/First Sibling: $360
– Second and Later Siblings: $150
Other Citizenship Fees
– Renouncing Citizenship: $300
– Resuming Citizenship: $240
Passport Fee Increases
Starting July 1, 2024, passport fees will also rise. Details about these increases have not yet been given, but they will apply to all applications submitted after this date.
The government said these changes aim to improve the immigration and citizenship systems in Australia. The fees increase each year based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI).
From July 1, 2024, anyone applying for citizenship online or by mail must pay the new fees. Applications are only complete when the Department of Home Affairs receives both the application and the correct fee.
