Hudson Meek, a young actor known for playing the child version of the main character in the movie “Baby Driver,” has died at the age of 16.
The accident happened on December 19 in Vestavia Hills, Alabama. According to Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates, Meek suffered severe injuries after falling from a moving vehicle.
He was taken to a hospital but passed away peacefully on Saturday, as noted in an obituary on Searcy Funeral Homes’ website.
A post on Meek’s Instagram page shared the heartbreaking news: “Our hearts are broken to share that Hudson Meek went home to be with Jesus tonight,” read a post on Meek’s Instagram account. “His 16 years on this earth were far too short, but he accomplished so much and significantly impacted everyone he met.”
Hudson was a sophomore at Vestavia Hills High School and a proud member of the school’s Rebel Football Team. His obituary described him as passionate about his faith, watching “The Simpsons,” enjoying water sports, exploring nature, traveling, and spending time with friends.
Meek began his acting career with small roles in TV shows and short films. He gained recognition in 2010 when he played Young Baby in the action-comedy movie “Baby Driver,” directed by Edgar Wright. The movie’s success gave Meek opportunities to act in other TV shows like “MacGyver,” “Legacies,” and “Found.”
Hudson is survived by his parents, Derek and Lani Meek; his older brother, Tucker; and his grandmothers, Margaret Meek and Faye Wells. A celebration of his life will take place on December 28 at Dawson Memorial Baptist Church in Homewood, Alabama.
