Former BBNaija star and Nigerian high jump champion, Mike Edwards, has successfully entered the world of professional boxing.
Beyond Boders reports that Edwards, in his first fight, beat Jake Cornish at the Dublin Arena.
The fight lasted all rounds, with Edwards winning by unanimous decision from the judges. He competed in the Misfits Boxing Cruiserweight division, which is run by KSI, a well-known social media personality and Nigerian-born professional boxer.
Edwards made his boxing debut on Saturday, August 31, 2024. His move to boxing is a big change from his previous career in athletics.

Before boxing, Edwards had a successful career in athletics. He started as a British athlete, but switched to represent Nigeria in 2018.
He was the Nigerian national high jump champion in 2021 and 2022, with a personal best of 2.25m.
Edwards also reached the finals in the African Athletics Championships twice and just missed a gold medal in 2022. He was a finalist at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
