Bobrisky: No One Will Be Spared, Tunji-Ojo Pledges to Root Out Institutional Issues

by Beyondboders

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has responded to the recent claims by popular Nigerian cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, regarding alleged preferential treatment during his jail time.

The controversy began after Bobrisky, who was jailed for naira abuse, claimed in a viral audio recording that he paid officials at the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) for special treatment while in custody. This sparked public concerns about corruption and fairness within Nigeria’s institutions.

Speaking on Channels Television’s “Politics Today” on Tuesday, Tunji-Ojo acknowledged that the situation highlights deeper issues within the country’s correctional system. He described the incident as “a reflection of institutional issues.”

The Minister explained that strict disciplinary measures are underway. He noted, “There are disciplinary procedures; you have to go through the board; you don’t just take action. Of course, somebody as high as an ACG who was found culpable of giving those verbal instructions in this regard has been suspended. This is because we said we are not going to shield anybody.”

Tunji-Ojo confirmed that a formal report has been sent to the relevant board and the NCoS, initiating disciplinary action against those involved.

“The report is with the board; we have sent a copy to the service themselves because disciplinary actions must start,” he said.

The Minister emphasized the importance of reforming the system to avoid similar issues in the future. “We cannot transfer today’s problem to the future,” he stressed.
