Roberto Baggio, the famous Italian footballer, was attacked by armed robbers at his home.
The incident happened last night while Baggio and his family were watching the Euro 2024 match between Italy and Spain.
Around 10 PM local time, a group of five robbers broke into Baggio’s house in Altavilla Vicentina, a small town near Venice. The intruders, armed and dangerous, locked Baggio’s family in a room.
Despite his efforts to defend his family, Baggio was struck on the head with a gun before they were all confined.
During the 40-minute ordeal, the robbers stole valuable items including watches, jewelry, and money from the house where Baggio and his family have lived for 15 years. The exact value of the stolen goods is still being determined.
After the robbers fled, Baggio managed to free his family and sought medical attention at a hospital in Arzignano, a nearby town, for a head injury that required stitches.
Thankfully, although shaken, none of his family members sustained physical injuries.
Local police are investigating the incident and have obtained CCTV footage to aid in their search for the culprits.
Baggio, known affectionately as “Il Divin Codino” (The Divine Ponytail), has not yet made any public statements about the robbery.
Throughout his illustrious career, Baggio played for top Italian clubs like Juventus, AC Milan, and Inter Milan, winning two Serie A titles. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest footballers in history.
Baggio, who faced a career-changing injury in 1985, later embraced Buddhism. He married his longtime partner Andreina Fabbi in 1989, and together they have three children: Valentina, Mattia, and Leonardo.
