Musiliu Akinsanya, known as MC Oluomo, has been elected as the new National President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).
Formerly the chairman of NURTW’s Lagos State chapter, MC Oluomo ran unopposed in the election held on Saturday at the Union’s Zonal Secretariat along the Osogbo-Ikirun road.
Delegates from Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, and Ekiti states participated in the election, which took place during the Union’s Quadrennial Delegate Conference. The event was supervised by the acting National President, Aliyu Issa-Ore.
Issa-Ore explained that the Union’s Constitution allows the Southwest zone to elect its choice for the national president’s position and present them to the national body.
The acting president, represented by Mrs. Adedamola Salam, confirmed that the Southwest zone followed the Constitution in choosing MC Oluomo.
In addition to Akinsanya’s election, Tajudeen Agbede was chosen as Vice President for the Southwest zone, and Akeem Adeosun was selected as a Trustee from the same zone.
After his swearing-in, MC Oluomo promised unity and peace within the Union. He shared a message of forgiveness, asking for harmony among members and stating, “This is our union, and we must be committed to preserving it. We will not allow anyone to destroy our means of livelihood.”
In his speech, he added, “I have forgiven everyone who has offended me, and I hope those I have offended will forgive me as well.”
