The Court of Appeal in Port Harcourt has upheld a fine against Nigerian radio personality, Ifedayo Olarinde, known as Daddy Freeze, for committing adultery.
Earlier, the High Court in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, ruled on February 18, 2021, that Daddy Freeze should pay N5 million for adultery with Benedicta Elechi. This money is to be paid to Paul Odekina, who was married to Elechi at the time.
Daddy Freeze challenged this decision, saying he was not properly informed about the case. He claimed the court rules were not followed in notifying him.
However, the Appeal Court found his argument without merit. The court stated that he should have filed a counter-affidavit if he wanted to dispute the service notification.
The Appeal Court’s decision, dated June 26, 2024, was made by Justices Abubakar Talba, Danlami Senchi, and Hannatu Balogun. They dismissed Daddy Freeze’s appeal and confirmed the High Court’s judgment.
The judges said Daddy Freeze’s appeal did not follow proper legal procedures and lacked substance.
As a result, the N5 million fine stands, and Daddy Freeze must pay this amount to Paul Odekina. “The appeal therefore lacks merit and it is hereby dismisse,” the court ruled.
