The High Court in Akwa Ibom State has sentenced Professor Ignatius Uduk from the University of Uyo (UNIUYO) to three years in prison for electoral fraud during the 2019 general elections.
Beyond Boders learned that Professor Uduk, who teaches Human Kinetics, faced three charges brought against him by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
On Wednesday, Justice Bassey Nkanang of Uyo High Court 5 found him not guilty of the first charge but convicted him on the second and third charges. The judge sentenced him to three years in prison for each count, but he will serve both sentences at the same time.
Earlier, another UNIUYO professor, Peter Ogban, was also found guilty of similar electoral offenses. He was sentenced to three years in prison after his trial, which began in 2019.
