Popular Afrobeats singer, Davido, says he is facing threats after his comments about Nigeria’s economy during an interview on an American podcast.
Davido had appeared on the podcast “Big Homies House,” where he advised Americans against moving to Africa, especially Nigeria. He described the country’s economy as being in “shambles.”
These comments sparked reactions, with prominent Nigerians like Joe Igbokwe and Reno Omokri openly criticizing him.
In response to the backlash, Davido defended himself, saying entertainers are the “real ambassadors” of Nigeria. On his social media platform X, he wrote, “Yall mad cus we the real ambassadors!”
He also claimed that his December show in Lagos might be canceled because of his comments. Davido posted, “Dem say dem go cancel my show cus of my interview … loooool I don’t have to perform in Nigeria.”
