Donald Trump has announced Susie Wiles, his campaign manager, as his choice for White House chief of staff.
Wiles played a significant role in Trump’s past political victories, including the 2016 and 2020 campaigns. Trump praised her as “tough, smart, innovative, and is universally admired and respected,” expressing confidence that she would serve the country well.
Wiles’ appointment is historic, marking the first time a woman has been named White House chief of staff. This role is highly influential, as the chief of staff works closely with the president, helping to guide the president’s plans and manage daily operations in the West Wing.
Chris Whipple, author of “The Gatekeepers,” highlighted the importance of the role, stating that a good chief of staff must often deliver hard truths to the president. He noted that while Wiles has proven capable of working effectively with Trump, her lack of recent Washington experience might pose challenges.
Susie Wiles has a long background in politics. She managed Trump’s campaigns in Florida in 2016 and 2020 and also helped with Florida Governor Rick Scott’s 2010 campaign.
Her career began with work for New York Representative Jack Kemp and service in President Reagan’s administration.
Wiles also held advisory roles in Jacksonville, where she supported multiple mayors.
Originally from a prominent family, Wiles is the daughter of well-known sports broadcaster Pat Summerall. She was married to Republican consultant Lenny Wiles before their divorce in 2017.
With her new position, Wiles is set to become one of Trump’s closest advisors, bringing her experience and strong connections to support the president’s goals.
