DSS Releases Nigerian Journalist, Adejuwon Soyinka After Six Hours, Sets Conditions

by Beyondboders

The Department of State Services (DSS) has released Adejuwon Soyinka, a Nigerian journalist, after holding him for over six hours on Sunday.

Soyinka, who works as the West African Regional Editor for The Conversation Africa, was taken into custody at around 5:40 a.m. when he arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. He had just returned from the United Kingdom on a Virgin Atlantic flight.

He was then moved to the DSS headquarters in Ikoyi, Lagos, where he was detained until around 12:30 p.m, and was released on bail with certain conditions.

The DSS kept his passport and required him to provide his Nigerian address and a reliable phone number.

Soyinka confirmed his release in a message, saying, “I have just been released by the DSS (SSS) in Lagos. They are holding on to my passport, though. I am in an Uber ride ordered for me by the Deputy Director of DSS in Lagos.”
