The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced Monday, September 16, 2024, as a public holiday to celebrate Eid-ul-Mawlid, an important Islamic event that marks the birth of Prophet Muhammad.
This announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government.
A statement released by Dr. Magdalene Ajani, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, on Friday, expressed the government’s hope for a peaceful and thoughtful celebration.
“The Federal Government has declared Monday, 16th September, 2024 as Public Holiday to mark the celebration of the Eid-ul-Mawlid, the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Unto Him),” the statement read in part.
The statement also encouraged Nigerians, especially the Muslim community, to reflect on values such as patience, sacrifice, and resilience during this special period.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo congratulated Muslims in Nigeria and abroad on the occasion and called for prayers for peace and prosperity in the country.
The government also highlighted the significance of the day, urging all Nigerians to embrace unity and work together for a better future.
