The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested Michael Lenin, a key leader of the ongoing #EndBadGovernance protests in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city.
As learned by Beyond Boders, Lenin was taken into custody at about 2 a.m. on Monday from his home in the Apo area of Abuja.
Damilare Adenola, the Director of Mobilisation for the Take It Back Movement, confirmed the arrest, stating that Lenin’s home was raided by DSS operatives and that Lenin was assaulted during the arrest.
Adenola demanded Lenin’s immediate and unconditional release, stating, “He was arrested and tortured in the presence of his family.”
As of now, DSS spokesperson, Peter Afunanya, has not responded to inquiries about the arrest.
In a related development, Atiku Abubakar, the 2023 presidential candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), criticized President Bola Tinubu’s recent speech in response to the #EndBadGovernance protests.
Atiku said the speech failed to address the protesters’ demands and lacked substance.
Atiku also mentioned that the current economic hardship in Nigeria is the responsibility of Tinubu’s administration and urged the government to focus on finding solutions rather than blaming past administrations and opposition parties.
