Equatorial Guinea’s President, Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, has appointed Zenón Obiang Obiang Avomo as the new head of the National Agency for Financial Investigation (ANIF).
This appointment comes after the dismissal of Baltasar Ebang Engonga, who was involved in a major scandal.
Engonga was reportedly fired due to “irregularities committed in the exercise of his functions, as well as inappropriate family and social conduct,” as stated in a government decree dated November 4.
According to local reports from Ahora EG and Real Equatorial Guinea, his dismissal followed accusations of recording over 400 explicit videos with the wives of prominent officials in Equatorial Guinea.
The videos were discovered during a surprise investigation by ANIF officials who were examining Engonga’s financial activities.
