Popular social media personality Vincent Otse, known as “Very Dark Man” (VDM), appeared at the Lagos High Court in Ikeja for a case against him filed by top Nigerian lawyer Femi Falana (SAN) and his son, the musician Folarin Falana, known as Falz.
Arriving in red traditional attire at about 9:30 a.m., VDM was welcomed by fans outside the courthouse. However, the Falanas did not attend.
The court could not proceed with the case because several key documents from both sides were not yet ready. Due to this, Justice Matthias Dawodu rescheduled the hearing for January 23.
Beyond Boders recalls that this case began on October 14 when Justice Dawodu, responding to a request from the Falanas, ordered VDM to remove a video he had posted on September 24. In this video, VDM allegedly made defamatory comments against the Falanas.
Justice Dawodu also instructed VDM to stop publishing or sharing any further comments about the Falanas online until the case is fully heard.
The Falanas are each suing VDM for ₦500 million, claiming he falsely accused them of taking ₦10 million from Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, to influence a legal matter. They argue that VDM’s claims are false and have harmed their reputation.
In response, VDM asked the court for permission to appeal, arguing that refusing this request could lead to unfair legal outcomes. He stated, “A refusal to grant leave may result in the enforcement of a decision that does not reflect a correct application of the law, leading to outcomes that may be detrimental not only to the parties involved but also to the administration of justice as a whole.”
