The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, celebrated the arrival of the first baby of 2025 in Abuja at the Asokoro District Hospital.
A baby girl named Favour Stephen-Odion was born at 12:27 a.m. on January 1, 2025. She weighed 3.6kg and is the daughter of Mr. Odion Oyinbo and Mrs. Chioma Odion.
Senator Tinubu also welcomed other newborns, including Zimchikachim Ejiofor, the first baby boy of the year, who arrived at 7:14 a.m. weighing 3kg. He is the son of Mr. Ejiofor Nworie and Mrs. Delight Nworie.
Represented by Mrs. Nana Shettima, the wife of the Vice President, the First Lady brought gifts for the babies, including care products, food supplies, and cash. She prayed for the children, asking for God’s blessings of good health, long life, and prosperity.
“I am here to represent the mother of the nation to welcome the first baby of the year and other children.
“So, I’m presenting this token and a beautiful package to our dear daughter. I want to wish her well, long life, prosperity, good health.
“Insha Allah, they (first baby and other babies) are the next generation to take over from us. I wish you all the best. Please take good care of her,” Mrs. Shettima said.
The First Lady also advised the mothers to practise exclusive breastfeeding, ensure immunizations, and follow post-natal care routines.
Birth certificates were presented to Favour and Zimchikachim. Senator Tinubu toured the hospital’s maternity ward, congratulating other parents on their new arrivals.
Dr. Rosemary Nwokorie, acting Chief Medical Director of the hospital, thanked the First Lady and praised the government’s efforts to improve healthcare, especially through initiatives like the Renewed Hope Initiative, which helps women and children.
