In the Oko Oba area of Lagos State, a tragic incident unfolded as a man lost his life over a disagreement about N2,500 debt.
The accused, Taiwo Badejo, allegedly stabbed his friend, known simply as Monday, during a dispute regarding money owed.
Beyond Boders gathered that the altercation between Badejo and Monday escalated into a physical confrontation, resulting in Monday being fatally wounded.
Residents of Egbatedo Street, where the incident occurred, recounted attempts to intervene, but were unable to prevent the tragic outcome.
Tope Ajise, a witness to the event, shared, “It started just as arguments a night before Friday until we heard in the morning that he (Taiwo) had stabbed Monday. It was just because of N2,500.” The confrontation reportedly arose from Monday’s request for repayment of a loan.
Another resident, Taofeek, shed light on the socio-economic circumstances surrounding the incident, highlighting unemployment as a contributing factor.
He mentioned that individuals like Badejo, lacking stable employment, often engage in petty activities, leading to conflicts like the one resulting in Monday’s death.
Following the stabbing, Badejo was apprehended by members of the Oodua People’s Congress and subsequently handed over to the police.
Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed Badejo’s arrest and assured that investigations were ongoing.
This unfortunate incident echoes similar cases of violence in Lagos, including the recent stabbing of Eboh Joshua by his friend Adeyeye Adedolapo in the Baruwa, Ipaja area.
A dispute over a restaurant bill once led to the death of a man named John, allegedly stabbed by his friend Akinola Adeleye in Ifako Ijaiye.
